What is Slope Electric Cooperative's Scholarship Program?
The Slope Electric Scholarship Program is designed to encourage and recognize the academic achievements of the members of Slope Electric Cooperative and/or their dependent children. This recognition will be in the form of scholarships to assist with their college education.
How much is the scholarship?
The Slope Electric Cooperative Scholarship Program will award one $1,000 scholarship through Basin Electric Power Cooperative. Two scholarships in the amount of $500 each will be awarded through Slope Electric. One scholarship for academics and one scholarship for a student attending a vocational or technical institution. The scholarships must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given. Checks will be distributed and made payable to the college in August. Slope Electric will present the scholarship award during a recognition ceremony at the cooperative's annual meeting in June.
Who is eligible to receive the scholarship?
Dependent children of member-system consumers and dependent children of member-cooperative employees are eligible. The applicant must be a student who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school.
How are the recipients selected?
Awards are based on academic excellence, which includes the following criteria: transcripts, ACT/SAT scores and overall grade-point average, career goals, extra-curricular activities, work experience, applicant appraisal and an essay question. A Slope Electric selection committee will screen applications.
What are the recipient's obligations?
Except for the requirements outlined, no obligations will be imposed upon the student as a scholarship award winner. Other than payment of the scholarship, no obligations or liability are assumed by Slope Electric Cooperative.
How can I apply?
To apply, you must complete the required criteria and the scholarship application. You can obtain an application from your High School, from Slope Electric Cooperative's office or by calling 701-579-4191 or 800-559-4191, or download the application from the link listed below. Applications must be returned to Slope Electric Cooperative by January 30, 2012. The applicant is responsible for submitting all necessary information to apply for a scholarship.
